Description

Ladies in Lavender:
Award winning actresses Dame Judi Dench and Maggie Smith star in this evocative, heart-warming story of unfulfilled dreams, innocence and unrequited love. Cornwall in 1936 remains as ever a timeless place. Sisters, Janet and Ursula Widdington discover a castaway on the beach below their house. With the help of the local doctor they nurse him back to health. During his convalescence the sisters discover his talent as a musician and the unsettling effect he has on them both - especially Ursula, whose life will never be the same again...

Gosford Park:
It is November 1932. Gosford Park is the magnificent country estate to which Sir William McCordle and his wife, Lady Sylvia, gather relations and friends for a weekend shooting party. They have invited an eclectic group. As the guests assemble in the gilded drawing rooms above, their personal maids and valets swell the ranks of the hose servants in the teeming kitchens and corridors below-stairs. But all is not as it seems: neither amongst the bejeweled guests lunching and dining at their enormous leisure, nor in the attic bedrooms and stark work stations where the servants labour for the comfort of their employers. Part comedy of manners and part mystery, the film is finally a moving portrait of events that bridge generations: class, sex, tragic personal history - and culminate in a murder. Or is it two murders...?

Keeping Mum:
Walter Goodfellow (Rowan Atkinson), the well meaning vicar of the parish of Little Wallop, is so obsessed with writing the perfect sermon that he is oblivious th his wife Gloria's (Kristin Scott Thomas) dalliance with her brash golf instructor Lance (Patrick Swayze): neither does he notice that his daughter Holly has a different boyfriend every week, and his young son Petey is the whipping boy for the school bullies. Gloria feels her life is spiralling out of control. She is sick of the incessant barking of the dog next door, her loveless marriage and her adolescent kids' escapades - she prays every night for salvation. Enter Grace (Maggie Smith), the answer to all the family's prayers: a sweet grey haired old lady, the charming and discreet new housekeeper, who has her own unique definition of keeping house - and a very unusual way of solving problems.
