With several strong singles taking up a fair portion of this debut release, it's clear that Welch is as much a pop writer as she is a left-field artist, despite the early influence of punk and grunge on her life. Musically, these influences are tempered by an admiration for soul and contemporary indie. Welch also received the Critics' Choice award at the Brits in 2009, usually a sign of big things to come. excellent album

I know im getting old at 37, but id never heard of them until I saw the Tv advert for the album. I know, I know its an award winning album and NOW I know why. I heard her singing You've got the love which was a throw back to my youth in the early 90's so I bought it. I have to admit, as much as I love the track just about all the others on the record are better. This was a bit of a slow burner for me, I did enjoy it when I first listened, but the more I heard it the more I loved it.
